Daniel isn't talking to me. He's barely even looking at me. I wish he'd get angry and yell or something. I even wish he'd hit me, because I know how to react to that. This is terrible! He's acting like I don't exist. I want to tell him that nothing happened between me and Charlotte. I want to tell him I'm sorry for some of what I said. I think I even called him mean, which he never has been. Why won't he give me a chance? Maybe something I said made him so angry he'll never talk to me again, but surely he should just tell me to go. And if he does, what do I do then? I can't do this! I can't work out some secret code he never taught me and guess what it is that has made him hate me. If it's that he thinks Charlotte and I did it, then he's wrong, and I can set him straight. If it's that he's starting to see what Uncle Caley always saw, I can't. Maybe he's seen what a fool he was to try to help me. I don't deserve his help. Charlotte and I sneaked to a room in the attic today and we sat on some old crates and held hands. She said things would be fine, but she doesn't know about life. Things are never fine. Friendships end and love's a bloody joke and in the end, we're all alone and no-one can trust anyone else. But I smiled at Charlotte and agreed, because the truth is a rotten thing to inflict on anyone.
