Yesterday, two youths called Hasad and Tabib turned up, looking for Harry. When he joined them, Hasad said, "Aydin, come quick! We found it!"
"Found what?" I said.
Harry smiled at me and said, "I'll tell you later. We have to go."
"I hope you're not pursuing any business interests without me." I said.
"No." said Harry, "What I'm going after is none of your business."
"Don't do anything I'm going to have to rescue you from." I said.
"Stop worrying!" he said, "We're only going to steal the Topkapi Dagger."
I suddenly stopped breathing. I stared at him in horror.
He grinned and said, "Joke!"
The trouble is, he would try if he thought he had a chance. It's good that he has confidence, but this is the vaulting ambition of which a certain Scottish play speaks. I let him go with his friends, but I had serious misgivings.

I've seen another side to Laura. Apparently, some time ago, she did a fan dance in Acapulco. I've been so annoyed with myself for being drawn to a woman who is so tediously proper and now I discover that she is capable of flinging herself heart and soul (and very small fans) into the moment. Yesterday, to distract Wilson's associates from the fact that the winery they are planning to back contained a corpse in a barrel, she gave them a variation on the feast for the eyes she gave them in Acapulco. She is amazing. Of course she's beautiful. No need to say that. Water's wet, trees have trunks, Laura Holt is beautiful. She's also very sexy: the way she moves, the way she smiles, the way she laughs and, now, the way she removes items of clothing. ( Read more... )

Yesterday was great. We went to Hagia Sophia and spent hours there. Daniel explained all about it. Sophia is wisdom, the wisdom of God. He said the early church was very fond of wisdom. It seemed funny to me, to speak about wisdom as if she were a woman, even with a woman's name, but I suppose it's no stranger than Daniel calling his car Amanda.
I sort of like it. Sophia sounds more friendly than any of the Trinity. Sophia sounds like someone who would give you a sticky bun and a cup of tea and just chat. When I said that to Daniel, he smiled. I'm glad he wasn't offended. It's weird, him being a thief and everything, but he is pretty religious.
I was wondering all the time why he took me there, to a place so important to him. Maybe he's trying to show me I'm important to him too. He talked about St Joseph and I wondered why, but Joseph looked after a kid who wasn't his too. It's almost like having a family, isn't it?
